Holistic Business Process Management

Successful with BPMN 2.0 and OCEB 2 Fundamental

The goal of Serge Schiltz is to convey a holistic approach to business process management. It is often not recognized for how many areas of a company the design and control of business processes are of central importance. In the author's view, business processes are the common denominator where the different disciplines of management meet.

This is where common interests crystallize and the potential for synergy is enormous. So why do BPMN and OCEB appear in the title of the book? Quite simply because the Object Management Group (OMG), the association behind BPMN and OCEB, has done an excellent job in the holistic view of business process management:

  • In contrast to other certifications, the curriculum of the OCEB certifications places a very substantial emphasis on the connection of business process management with other management topics.
  • BPMN is the only modeling language for business processes that successfully bridges the gap between business and IT.

Nevertheless, the book is not simply a tool for preparing for the OCEB 2 Fundamental certification exam. It is primarily intended to be a practical guide to successful business process management. In many areas, the book goes beyond what you need to know for the OCEB 2 Fundamental certification. However, if you are interested in certification, the book covers all necessary aspects.

The second edition of this book has been expanded to include a few topics that go beyond OCEB 2 Fundamental. Some chapters have been slightly expanded and the knowledge quiz now corresponds in scope and weighting to a certification exam. Furthermore, the graphical quality of the book has been significantly improved.
